The Cowboys are inching closer and closer to their home opener against the Giants, hoping that the mini-bye gives them an added advantage in earning their first win of the new season. And now, with the inactives list out, we have a better idea of who will be competing for that win.
All eyes are on Mazi Smith and Jaydon Blue. The former first-round pick was a healthy scratch last week,
somewhat surprisingly, and is getting the designation again. Meanwhile, the rookie running back is being brought along slowly, even after the mild struggles of Miles Sanders in the season opener, once again being an inactive.
DaRon Bland is inactive, though that’s hardly a surprise. He was ruled out earlier this week with a foot injury. He joins the remaining inactive players that include Shemar James, Ajani Cornelius, Hakeem Adeniji, and Trevor Keegan. The Cowboys had previously moved corners Zion Childress and Robert Rochell up from the practice squad to help fill Bland’s absence.
As for the Giants, they had already ruled out the pair of linebackers – Micah McFadden and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles – with injuries earlier this week. The Giants also saw each of their top three receivers – Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton – pop up on the injury report, but all three are active and ready to go.
As for the offensive line, left tackle Andrew Thomas is also out after previously being listed as doubtful with a knee injury. Fellow tackle and former first rounder Evan Neal, who was a healthy scratch last week, is also inactive despite Thomas being ruled out.
