German national team head coach Jürgen Klopp is a man of mystery, eh?
The former Liverpool boss was not going to show his hand with his lineup vs. Greece, though it does appear that Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović, who was also part of the press conference, will get the nod.
“I told him just before the press conference that he can’t talk his way out of the team,” Klopp said with a laugh (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “You’ll really have to wait until tomorrow for that.”
When asked if he missed coaching,
Klopp offered up a weird reply.
“I missed nothing, but I realized I still love what I’m doing. It’s a blessing to work together with players like him (points to Pavlović). It’s a pure joy. I’m blessed to watch the group I have from close. We’ve only just started, I’m looking forward to our common future,” Klopp remarked.
Klopp was also asked about Serge Gnabry’s exit from camp and stated that the Bayern Munich attacker was “feeling the strain.”
“He wasn’t injured at halftime [against Serbia], but he was feeling the strain. Now he can return to Bayern with three appearances under his belt and very good training,” said Klopp.
When asked if there would be a change at goalkeeper, Klopp let out some unexpected news. Earlier on Saturday, it was reported that FC Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen would get the start over Bayern Munich’s Jonas Urbig, who was in net for Germany’s 2-0 win over Serbia.
Now, that might not be the case.
“At the moment, it looks like we won’t be making a change tomorrow. But who knows,” Klopp said. “The other keepers who were involved all play regularly for their clubs. Urbig doesn’t, which is why he gets this game. That’s how we planned things. But everyone has made a great impression. There won’t be any problems in that area.”
