Last night, I was playing Overwatch* with a friend from Cleveland. At one point I asked him what he thought of the Guardians game that was going on. His response was: “Honestly, I sort of forgot they were playing tonight. Cleveland is usually a ‘go out in the ALDS’ type of team.”
Sure enough, that’s been the Guardians’ MO. Before last night, the Guardians had won just one game in the ALCS in their last six trips to the postseason. But last night, they defeated their opponents, the Tampa Bay Rays,
to put them up 1-0.
Now, the Rays are a much better team than the Guardians are; Tampa Bay won 98 games in the regular season, while Cleveland won 85 games. However, the playoffs are a fickle beast, and sometimes you can Team of Destiny your way to a couple of cheeky series victories. Maybe that’s Cleveland this year.
*For those of you asking “who’s your main” or “what’s your role,” I play as a true flex and fill in whatever. But if you must know, my first choice of tank is Reinhardt, my first choice of damage is Mei, and my first choice of support is Zenyatta.
