Gervon Dexter Sr. always had the tools to be a force in the NFL. His emergence in his second year in 2024 was eye-opening, from his explosive get-off to his violent hand usage overwhelming guards. His ability to crush the pocket was valuable to disrupt the rhythm of opposing passing games.
Whether it was a bad scheme fit or falling out of favor with a new coaching staff, Dexter Sr. wasn’t as impactful in 2025. Ian Cunningham knew from his time in Chicago that he could add him to bolster the Falcons’
front.
The new general manager capitalized on the opportunity to acquire Dexter Sr. in the summer. That move is proving shrewd, with Dexter joining Brandon Dorlus to form a powerful interior pass-rushing pairing. In an off-season filled with several impressive under-the-radar moves by the new regime, trading for Dexter Sr. is by far the best decision for fans.
As the Falcons continue to adjust through difficult circumstances, they have to be excited about the future. A pass-rushing group of Dexter Sr. Dorlus, Jalon Walker, and James Pearce Jr. could be a nightmare for opposing fronts. Although the fanbase is understandably down about the team’s current direction after multiple tough defeats, there is genuine reason to be confident in the defense.
