Jaron “Boots” Ennis (35-0, 31 KO) wanted to make a statement in his super welterweight debut and it was a swift statement, if nothing else. Boots dominated Uisma Lima (14-2, 10 KO), stopping him in under two minutes of the first round.
Boots shook Lima up badly with a clean shot early in the fight, then jumped on him to put him down clean. Lima would get up from that knockdown but had to contend with an aggressive Boots who was ready to jump all over him and he did exactly that, putting Lima down hard
for second time in under the first two minutes of the fight. Lima would get up once again, but get assaulted by Boots with another volley of punches and the referee was forced to jump in to save a compromised Lima from further punishment.
In the post-fight interview Boots said he did what he had to do in this fight and that the world already know who he’s gunning for next — a showdown with Vergil Ortiz.
- Guido Vianello KO-5 Alexis Barriere: This was the highlight of the undercard, with these two heavyweights putting it all on the line and really bringing the action for as long as the fight lasted. Vianello (14-3-1, 12 KOs) was the obviously bigger and stronger puncher in the fight, but Barriere’s finesse and skill saw him strike Vianello cleanly and often. The problem for Barriere (12-1, 10 KOs) was that the strength of Vianello quickly wore on his defenses, and Vianello would eventually break through and put Barriere down in the fourth round with Barriere lucky to make it out of that round, thanks to the bell. But in the very next round Vianello would land another big shot that put Barriere down for the count, scoring the stoppage at the 0:26 mark.
- Tahmir Smalls UD-10 Jose Roman: Tahmir Smalls (16-0, 11 KOs) scored a unanimous decision points win over Jose Roman (14-2, 6 KOs) on at least one wider scorecard than some will be comfortable with, with the judges turning in official scorecards of 98-91, 96-93, 95-95, but the decision itself wasn’t awful. Tahmir Smalls started out pretty hot in the fight, nearly ending it in the third round when he caught Roman clean with a right hand that nearly had him down for the count, but Roman managed to survive the round and had a lot of good moments in the second half of the fight. BLH ended up scoring the fight for Smalls by just one point, 95-94, with the knockdown being the difference.
- Dennis Thompson SD-6 Sean Diaz: Dennis Thompson (8-0, 5 KOs) scored a win in the DAZN opener, setting a fast pace in a six round fight that had Sean Diaz (9-1, 2 KOs) worn down early, resorting to a ton of needless showboating and holding in an effort to convince those watching he was performing better than he really was. It wasn’t exactly an impressive showing from Thompson, but it was good enough for him to move forward from here, even if the scores were closer than it probably should’ve been with the judges turning in a split decision win with scores of 60-53, 56-57, 57-56.
