News of the Commanders signing receiver Stefon Diggs was followed shortly after by initial terms of his contract, a one-year deal worth up to $12 million.
Anytime you see the “up to” phrasing, that includes incentives and escalators beyond the base terms of the deal. That’s no different in this case.
More complete terms of the deal
were provided by sports finance site Spotrac, which broken down the details of the Diggs deal. The star receiver signed a one-year deal with $7.15 million guaranteed. He
received a $2 million signing bonus and will make a $5.15 million base salary. There are also $850k worth of per game roster bonuses that can increase the deal to $ 8 million.
There are another $4 million in incentives that can be earned to reach the $12 million maximum possible within the structure of the deal. At the time of this story’s original publication, those incentives were not available. This story will be updated once those terms are known.
The Diggs contract carries an $8 million cap hit – it also requires $9.7 million in cash — which doesn’t matter much to a Commanders team with significant amounts of cap space.
Per Spotrac, the Commanders still have $37 million in overall cap space.
