Union Berlin is not a juggernaut by any means, but it did find a way to frustrate Bayern Munich into a 2-2 draw back into November.
“We know Union’s strengths. This is the third time this season we’re going to play against them. Now we’re playing at home, so we want to play a different game than we did in Berlin. Let’s see how much of their game they can implement at Allianz Arena. We know how uncomfortable it can be to play against them,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Speaking of uncomfortable,
Kompany said that Aleksandar Pavlović is not hurt and that Manuel Neuer could return to start in goal.
“(Pavlović is) not injured. If he feels better today, he will be fully available tomorrow. The boys have already played a lot of games this season. But it shouldn’t be a problem for him tomorrow,” Kompany said. “Normally Jonas (Urbig) would start tomorrow. But we have another training session today. It’s about what Manuel can and can’t do right now. There’s always a difference between training and games. If Manu can’t play, Jonas will.”
Given Neuer’s recent injury history, wouldn’t it make more sense to just let the veteran ride into the international break getting some extra rest, so he can come back fully at 100% in two weeks?
It is a fair question to ask.
