Bron Breakker and Oba Femi have been circling each other for a while now, but it really ramped up after the latter retired Brock Lesnar in a series of fantastic matches that culminated at SummerSlam earlier this month. Everyone seemed to reach the same conclusion at the same time — Femi is well and truly the next big thing.
Except Breakker was supposed to be exactly that. He may be languishing a bit as a side character in The Vision — even if he is a world tag team champion — but he’s still that guy.
The best way to settle things up between these two is in the ring, of course.
So they came together to do just that on Monday Night Raw this week in Buffalo. Before they could get to throwing hands, however, Paul Heyman gave a big speech about how they need to build to box office, and how they have a duty to the shareholders to make the biggest matches where they can make the most money. So he went to Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and got this one done for the upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event show on Sept. 6 in Atlanta, Georgia.
I’m not sure how that qualifies as the big box office event they need to be building a match like this to other than it’s just the next major show on the schedule but there you have it.
The updated card:
- Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton
- Oba Femi vs. Bron Breakker
