Even though it is football season, college basketball season is just around the corner with the Buckeyes tipping off on Nov. 3. There were a lot of roster changes for the Buckeyes heading into the 2025-26 season, and over the next couple of months we will be dropping one player preview a week to get you caught up on the current roster.
The Colin White File
Name: Colin White Position: Forward Class: Sophomore High School/Former School: Ottawa-Glandorf High School Hometown: Ottawa, Ohio Height: 6-foot-6 Weight: 205 pounds
Breakdown
As a freshman White appeared in 19 games and averaged 1.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. His midseason development was hampered due to an ankle injury, as he only played in 13 Big Ten games as well as the Big Ten Tournament game against Iowa.
White was a top 125 recruit in the 2024 class, and was named as the 2024 Ohio Mr. Basketball. He earned first-team all-state honors as a junior and senior as he led Ottawa-Glandorf to back-to-back state championship game appearances in 2022 and 2023.
White joins LeBron James as the only high school players in Ohio to start on a state final four team four consecutive seasons. He was also the first player in Ottawa-Glandorf history to score over 2,000 career points.
The Ohio kid dominated the competition as a high school senior en route to winning Mr. Basketball, as he averaged 25.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.6 steals per games and was named the Division-III Northwest Ohio Player of the Year as a junior after averaging 20.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
White played for Indiana Elite on the AAU circuit and helped the loaded team to a 39-3 record in his final season, averaging 14.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Expected Role
White is going to be an interesting guy to watch as the season progresses. He will be expected to take a large leap from his freshman to his sophomore season, especially after dealing with a lingering injury last year.
With the expectation that Devin Royal will move to three and Brandon Noel will start at the four, White will be the backup to Royal and the first wing off the bench. However, unless the Buckeyes run a small ball lineup with three guards in the lineup, White will likely be the only backup to Royal and will have to play valuable minutes.
In a perfect world if he can stay healthy, he will play 12-15 minutes a game off the bench and score as needed, but mainly be a guy that can come in and be a spark on defense and keep the offense moving. White showed flashes last year as an active defender and knocked down some shots, and his progress this season will be worth keeping an eye on.
