The United States Women’s National Team take to the field today in a big time friendly when they face Spain in a battle of the top two teams in the FIFA world rankings. The USWNT, ranked #2, hope to make a statement with a victory over #1 Spain and let the rest of the world know that they’re a true contender for next summer’s Women’s World Cup.
Before they do that, they have to tackle a loaded Spain lineup full of stars, and the reigning world champions aren’t going to make it easy for the United
States. The collective matchups is what USWNT head coach Emma Hayes wants to take center focus from the fans who will be in attendance in the nation’s capital along with those watching at home. We will hopefully see some beautiful, competitive soccer. And in the process, the USWNT will continue to make final preparations for next month’s Concacaf W Championship. It should be an action packed match today, and we’ll see these two titans compete on the field as the world watches on.
