The Commanders got some good news regarding Jayden Daniels health earlier this week. General manager Adam Peters said in an interview with 106.7-FM The Fan that surgery wasn’t on the table and that injured reserve wasn’t being considered after Daniels dislocated his left (non-throwing) elbow in a Week 2 loss to Dallas.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport provided more of a timeline for a return to play on Sunday morning. He said that Daniels is expect back “within three weeks.“
Backup Marcus Mariota was declared the starter for Sunday’s home opener versus Seattle right after Daniels’ Week 2 injury. The Commanders travel to London for a Week 4 contest with Indianapolis on Tuesday, which would be a quick turnaround, though Rapoport’s reported timeline could earmark that Week 5 contest against the New York Giants at Northwest Stadium.
Daniels will be wearing a left arm brace from now on, which should allow him to play without much time missed. Surgery remains a reported possibility after the season.
