In England, playing the day after Christmas is a tradition. In fact, it has its’ own name. Boxing Day is a difficult, grueling fixture day. And while the vast majority of footballing professionals enjoy playing the sport whenever they can, not all will be able to claim to love the cold, dreary conditions they face playing in.
Harry Kane, so used to Boxing Day throughout his many years at Tottenham Hotspur, has things very differently at Bayern Munich. Germany’s Bundesliga pauses for a winter break
throughout Christmas time and past New Year’s, meaning that Kane can pick a nice vacation spot rather than slugging it out on the pitch. Speaking to SkySport, Kane discusses the big change to his Christmas plans:
“Now that I’m on winter break, it’s obviously very different than when I was in England. So yes, we’re going away. We’re going to have a hot Christmas,” Kane states, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. Though he refrains from expressing any joy himself, he knows some people who will certainly appreciate the vacation: “We’re flying to the Caribbean and just enjoying some sun. And of course, it’s very special for the children to experience Christmas in a completely different way – instead of the usual cold in England with snow or rain.”
That sound quite good, does it not? Surely, even for hardened professional like the former Norwich City forward, such a break has its’ upsides.
