Michael Olise is not exactly known for giving long, revealing interviews, and that reputation remained intact after Bayern Munich’s 5-0 Champions League victory over Bodø/Glimt.
In his immediate post-match comments, Olise once again delivered the kind of terse, almost aloof answers that have become a trademark of his media appearances. There was little drama, few superlatives and even less interest in making himself the story. However, a subsequent interview with UEFA offered a little more insight
into how Olise viewed Bayern Munich’s dominant victory.
“I thought it was a good performance. First half was a bit difficult. They had a low block, it was tight. Then, naturally as the game opened up, we were able to get our chances and take them. We play the same way. Whatever happens, happens. At half-time the coach said to just keep playing the way we were playing, that the game would open up and to take our chances, and we took them. It’s good [playing with this team]. We all know each other’s movements, know how to play together. When it works, it’s good and we’re happy,” Olise tld UEFA (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That final point is particularly encouraging for Bayern Munich supporters. Olise has now become an increasingly important part of an attack that is developing genuine chemistry around Harry Kane, Luis Díaz, and Jamal Musiala.
Olise’s comments also reflect the confidence within Vincent Kompany’s squad. Bayern Munich did not panic when Bodø/Glimt frustrated them early. They trusted their approach, waited for the game to open up and eventually overwhelmed their opponents.
Olise may not give the most animated (or interesting) interviews, but his performances are doing plenty of talking for him — which Bayern Munich fans will take every day of the week.
