Bayern Munich star Josip Stanišić seems to be enjoying his time and play in the 2026 World Cup. The Croatian helped his national team reach the Round of 32 after securing second place of Group L and reflected on how the tournament has been for him so far, highlighting his assist against England (Kicker‘s Frank Linkesch via @iMiaSanMia). “Overall, I’d say I played well,” Stanišić said. “The assist against Panama stands out. But even against England, I felt like I didn’t lose a single challenge; Marcus
Rashford’s goal was difficult to defend, he did a great job. I’m satisfied.”
However, Stanišić also stressed that personal performances are secondary to his country’s ambitions. “But even if I’d played badly three times and we still had six points, I wouldn’t care. We’re here to progress as a team; it’s all about the team and the country,” he said.
Stanišić’s Croatia will face Portugal in the Round of 32 on Thursday at Toronto Stadium.
