There was at least one important player on the field for the L.A. Rams on Saturday and it showed. Rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson made his Rams debut in L.A.’s final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns and starred for two quarters as the Dresser Winn-led offense strung together a couple of decent drives in the first half.
Ferguson, the team’s first pick after they traded down in a deal with the Atlanta Falcons, caught two passes for 48 yards. With or without the ball, Ferguson looked fast,
strong, and capable of some day carrying the torch from Tyler Higbee as Sean McVay’s top tight end.
Rams fans were excited to get their first look at the 46th overall pick out of Oregon and one of the most athletic tight ends in the NFL.
Ferguson is 6’5, 247 lbs, and ran a 4.63 40-yard dash at the combine with a 39” vertical. GM Les Snead told the broadcast that the Rams could use more 12 personnel this season (2 TE, 1 RB) to get Ferguson onto the field.
The Rams have made many attempts to replace and/or help Higbee at the tight end position but so far none of them have panned out. That includes Colby Parkinson, Brycen Hopkins, and Gerald Everett. Ferguson is the latest try and although it was only a few targets and about 20 snaps, he looked the part in his first game with a Rams uniform on. Will it carry over into Week 1 against the Texans?
