The Detroit Tigers got a breather after sweeping the Athletics in Sacramento last weekend, which pulled them to within four games of the .500 mark. Along the way, the trade deadline happened, with Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize being shipped out to help restock the farm.
Next up for the Motor City Kitties on their nine-game West Coast road trip are the Seattle Mariners, who welcome them to T-Mobile Park for a three-game set starting on Tuesday night. No starter for the opener has been announced as of
the time of publication, with a gaping hole now in the rotation after the deadline deals.
For Seattle, right-hander Emerson Hancock will get the start to kick things off. The 27-year-old is in the midst of the best of his four-year career and is coming off a month that saw him post a 2.29 ERA and 3.66 FIP over 19 2/3 innings of work, allowing 15 hits (two home runs) and five walks against 15 strikeouts over that span, picking up a win and a loss across that four-game stretch.
Hancock suffered an injury on July 12 when he took a 107.2 mph one-hopper off the bat of Yandy Diaz that struck his pitching hand, but despite some bruising, his X-rays came back negative. Ten days later, he made his third start of July.
