The New York Giants will enter their Week 6 matchup against the New Orleans Saints as 1.5-point underdogs despite being home at MetLife Stadium, per FanDuel.
The Giants emerged from Week 5 with a 3-1-1 record and extended their lead in the NFC East after a 27-27 tie with the Washington Commanders
The Saints, meanwhile, are 1-4 following a 23-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
The Saints won 26-14 when two teams met last year, with the Giants committing five turnovers.
The Giants will enter their third-straight
game as underdogs against a team with 1 (or fewer) wins, despite not having lost since their Week 2 disaster against the Los Angeles Rams. Of course, it’s difficult to say that any of the last three weeks have been “inspiring”.
Rather than “Big Blue”, we should probably be calling this team “Code Blue” as they’ve waited until the last possible second to snatch a win away from the jaws of defeat in recent weeks. In Weeks 3 and 4 that meant Red Zone interceptions in the closing seconds, by Jevon Holland and Deonte Banks, respectively. As we all remember, Week 5 ended with the Giants’ defense slowing the Commanders’ offense enough that time expired in their disorganization.
That does speak to the team’s resilience and there have been flashes of excellence on both offense and defense. The Giants have overcome deficits in each of the last two weeks and have shown a willingness to fight through the final whistle. However there has also been too little down-to-down consistency from the Giants on both sides of the ball.
On the flip side, the Saints are last in the NFC South by both their point differential and 0-1 divisional record. Their offense has largely been more efficient and consistent than the Giants’ attack, but their defense has been much worse. It’s worth noting that Tyler Shough threw for just 96 yards, averaging just 3.8 yards per attempt with two interceptions and a sack against the Vikings hyper-aggressive blitzing defense.
