Hansi Flick’s rotation policy at Barcelona has been in the spotlight this week after Rodri picked up an injury against Aston Villa that will keep him out for a month.
Rodri played all 90 minutes of Barcelona’s 6-1 win over Alaves and then started again in midweek in the Champions League but was forced off at half-time with an injury.
The 30-year-old has already racked up almost 1,000 minutes of action for Barcelona in his first season with the club, while Lamine Yamal has barely had a rest either and
has started every match for Flick’s side this season, playing a total of 1,265 minutes for Barca.
Flick’s rotation policy has therefore been questioned, with former Atletico star Mario Suarez adamant the German coach can afford to manage his top stars’ minutes more effectively.
“When you’ve had more than five matches in which you’ve been winning by a margin of more than two or three goals, you can take the opportunity to give your players a rest,” he told Movistar. Ultimately, when a player reaches April or May with 500 or 600 fewer minutes under his belt, it shows.”
“And even more so against a side like PSG, who manage their players’ minutes in the French league throughout the season to ensure their star players are in peak condition. And you might say, ‘It’s the French league’, but the fact is that Barcelona are winning matches by very large margins, which allows them to rest their players.”
So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is:
Is Hansi Flick’s rotation policy becoming an issue for Barcelona?
