With the NFL Draft rapidly approaching, the Pittsburgh Steelers remain in the market for wide receiver help—and a surprising opportunity may be developing.
According to ESPN’s NFL Draft Insider Matt Miller, Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson is trending in the wrong direction as draft boards begin to take final shape. Once viewed as a potential mid-first round lock, Tyson’s stock has reportedly dipped due to durability concerns and a lack of participation in key pre-draft workouts.
When healthy, Tyson was nothing short of electric at Arizona State Sun Devils. Over his collegiate career, he emerged as a true playmaker—totaling over 2,400 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging nearly 16 yards per catch. His blend of speed, body control, and route-running made him one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the Pac-12.
However, injuries have been a recurring issue. Tyson dealt with multiple lower-body injuries during his time in college, including a lingering hamstring strain and a missed stretch of games in his final season. Those setbacks, combined with his absence from combine and pro day testing, have left evaluators with unanswered questions at a critical time in the process.
Despite the concerns, Tyson is still widely viewed as one of the top receivers in the class—generally ranked just behind Carnell Tate and Makai Lemon on many projected boards.
For Pittsburgh, the situation is worth monitoring closely. The team recently acquired Michael Pittman Jr., but the depth chart remains thin. Roman Wilson currently projects as the third option, leaving room for another high-impact addition.
If Tyson slides to pick No. 21, the Steelers could find themselves in a difficult—but potentially rewarding—position. Taking a chance on a high-upside receiver with medical red flags is always a gamble, but one that could pay off significantly if he returns to full form.
Whether the concerns surrounding Tyson are legitimate or simply pre-draft noise remains to be seen. But if he’s still on the board when Pittsburgh is on the clock, don’t be surprised if the Steelers give him serious consideration.
