The season is in view for Ohio State women’s basketball. Teams change from season to season, but the 2026-27 campaign looks close to the same for the Buckeyes.
Sure, there are a few new freshmen here, a few graduated or left over there, but a majority of the team returns, which brings a sense of consistency.
Except for Seini Henry, the redshirt sophomore forward who is no longer a forward. The next player preview focuses on why that might be and what fans can expect from someone who could be a surprise
piece of the Ohio State roster.
Name: Seini Henry
Position: Guard
Class: Redshirt sophomore
High School: Purcell Marian High School (Cincinnati, Ohio)
2025-26 Stats: 2.1 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 0.2 apg, 37.1 FG%, 9.1 3PT FG%, 62.5 FT%
Last Season
The main reason for the “surprise” tag on Henry is because of her first two years in the program. Henry joined the program and received a redshirt.
Then, in Henry’s second season, the then forward played most of her minutes outside of the Big Ten schedule. Henry appeared in six games for 17 total minutes.
Instead of focusing on last season, look at what happened over the summer.
What to Expect
Henry is now a guard. At 6-foot, Henry was the shortest of the forward group and with five bigs on the roster for 26-27, there was not a place for the now guard.
Over the summer, Henry had what could be called a crash course in playing the role when she surprised fans. Henry competed over the summer for Tonga in the Pacific Nations League in 3×3 basketball and the team did really well. How well? Undefeated well.
Described with one word, 3×3 basketball is chaotic. Teams play to 21 points on half of a court and have a 12-second shot clock to do it.
When there is a change in possession, the team with the ball has to go beyond the three-point line to start the next possession. Also, it’s a two-point line in 3×3, with anything inside going in for one point.
3×3 is about speed, getting away from defenders and making your shots. Henry hit deep shots and helped lead the team to the nation’s first World Cup appearance. They are the same characteristics that shine in a McGuff-style game plan.
Prediction
Where Henry will place in the team is something of a wild card. Ohio State needed more guards available with only two on the roster beyond predicted starters Jaloni Cambridge, Kennedy Cambridge and Ava Watson. Now in year three in the program, Henry knows the conditioning it takes to compete, and a focus on defense.
Plus, the shift to a guard position means the 6-foot size is an advantage over a normally shorter position. Henry’s potential this season ranges from similar to last season to becoming an early name called off the bench.
The non-conference schedule will be huge for Henry to show defensive ability combined with improved shooting, especially beyond the arc.
Highlights
Below are highlights from one of Tonga’s 3×3 Nation’s League games. It shows Henry’s full transition over to guard and the Buckeye hits deep shots with consistency and fluidity.
