The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to d all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name! Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job, Ezek, Valyrian Steel, Felipejack, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco and yours truly, Kung_Fu_Zizou
Mourinho has his back-4 and with Schlotterbeck rumours ringing louder, he could have his ideal back-4 by the time the World Cup is over. The remaining issues will be his midfield balance. How to protect the back 4 and get the best
out of Jude Bellingham. How to effectively use Bernardo Silva without causing more problems than you’re solving. And finally, the attack. Mourinho brought Di Maria during his first spell to balance complete his attack. This season he will be looking at ways to do the same but might ultimately have to swallow the pain for this coming season.
World Cup-Killer Mbappé
Kylian Mbappé has continued his outrageous form at the World Cup. Kylian Mbappé treats the World Cup the way CR7 treated the Champions League. The frenchman has continued his fine form with a wonderful brace against Senegal during France’s opening game. He now stands just 3 goals away from being the greatest striker in the history of the competition.
Bellingham v Modric
England and Croatia kick-Off their respective World Cup campaigns with what promises to be an enthralling fixture. England with a lot to prove. Croatia as always will be playing for pride at the very least. They have been one of the most consistent performers to never win the World Cup but they got a wonderful tradition going back to their appearance in France, 1998.
England will pin their hopes on Jude Bellingham and he will relish every moment that weight is on his shoulders. The big stage is often so carefully crafted, it becomes indistinguishable from a canvas in anticipation of its masterful painter.
Silly Season Continues..
Do dreams come true? Bastoni is one of those universally highly rated footballers. Bastoni has everything. Technique, experience, IQ and many years left to play at the top level. It’s hard to say where Mou and Co have him in their pecking order of possible CB acquisitions. The rumour mill noise has largely been around Nico Schlotterbeck and latterly Ruben Dìas. Any of the 3 CBs ameliorate our struggles in defence by numbers.
Sweet Galactic Fever
Real Madrid are eager as ever to either sign a superstar or at the very least to appear to try very hard to sign one. Olise is a solution to multiple problems. He occupies the RW. He creates and takes pressure off the midfielders. He drags the opposition over to his side and opens up the left side. He brings, balance and creativity and goal threat. We wouldn’t necessarily need to sign more midfielders if we signed Olise. He can also play as a 10. There’s no reality in this universe amenable to Real Madrid signing Olise this summer. The whole things appears to be little more than a ruse.
