Jonathan Tah quietly had a rock solid season for Bayern Munich after his arrival from Bundesliga title rivals, Bayer Leverkusen. While Harry Kane and Michael Olise stole the headlines week in and week out, turning heads with their goal-scoring feats, Tah relied on his secret weapon to set himself apart: consistency.
The six foot five defender featured in every single one of Bayern’s UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal fixtures, only missing six matches in the Bundesliga — ever present and consistently
playing his part in the heart of defense.
Tah’s consistency doesn’t stop at his availability. In fact, it is ingrained into his game.
According to OptaFranz, the German international broke a Bundesliga passing accuracy record.
96% – Bayern Munich’s Jonathan Tah achieved a 96% pass completion rate in the recently concluded Bundesliga season, the highest among all players – and at the same time the best figure for a player since detailed data collection began in 2004/05 with at least 1000 minutes in a Bundesliga season. Reliability.
BFW Analysis
Bayern lacked a stable presence in their back line. While Upamecano found his best form in a Bayern shirt this season, the Frenchman still had a few dips in consistency, making the ever reliable Tah the perfect center-back partner.
Tah is rarely going to give you a 10 out of 10 performance, but he’ll barely ever give you anything less than a seven. Consistency and reliability are the two cornerstones Tah’s game, and he implemented it brilliantly in his first season at Bayern.
