The New York Giants will be back on the Quest Diagnostics Training Center practice field on Tuesday afternoon for their 12th workout of training camp. This is expected to be a 2½-hour session in shells, rather than full pads.
There are several injuries to note heading into Tuesday’s practice:
- Quarterback Jaxson Dart “got his foot stepped on” during Monday’s practice, according to coach John Harbaugh. This sounds like nothing to worry about.
- Abdul Carter missed Monday’s practice with a hand/finger issue. Harbaugh said Carter is likely to practice on Tuesday.
- Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is managing a knee issue. Harbaugh said the Giants knew they would have to deal with that when they signed him.
- Center John Michael Schmitz is in the concussion protocol. Backup center Lucas Patrick has what Harbaugh called an “old knee”, causing the team to manage his reps.
- Cornerback Greg Newsome worked on the side with trainers MOnday due to an undisclosed injury. Harbaugh said Newsome would be “fine.”
- Nickel cornerback Dru Phillips worked with trainers on Monday. He has not practiced since suffering a midl knee sprain late last week.
- Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt suffered a knee or ankle injury. Harbaugh was not happy about the hit Hyatt took that led to the injury. “You can’t be laying out for a tackle in that situation,” he said.
- Did defensive lineman Chauncey Golston suffer a concussion when his head hit the turf on Monday? We should know today.
- What injury was guard Francis Mauigoa checked for? Again, we should get that answer on Tuesday.
That is a long list. Nothing, though, long-term.
Backup offensive linemen juggled
With the injuries the Giants are dealing with, some shuffling was done with the backup offensive linemen on Monday. Per Dan Duggan:
Rookie JC Davis got all of the
second-team reps at LT for the first time with Marcus Mbow kicking over to RT. Josh Ezeudu slid into RG after spending the first 10 practices exclusively at RT. Aaron Stinnie and Daniel Faalele alternated at LG with Jake Kubas stepping at center.
A few things of note there.
- Ezeudu at guard. That flexibility gives him a chance to stick on the 53-man roster, or at least the practice squad.
- Kubas at center. He has practiced there for the past two seasons. No surprise they turned to him with Schmitz out and Patrick limited.
- The right tackle work was probably good for Mbow. He has had little of that during camp.
Come on back after practice for injury reports, a full practice report, and much more.
