We’ve been doing this for the last few years, your mission is to tell us:
What was the best thing that happened to you this year?
What was the best part of this past baseball season for you?
For me, best thing that happen?
We had a fantastic holiday in Africa. We did safaris for three weeks, then a cruise up the continent’s west coast. We were up close to many animals that I never thought I’d see up close. Or never thought I’d want to see up close. The most intense moment was watching wild dogs chasing
down an antelope. They killed and ate it all except for the head, within 15 minutes. But just seeing animals which I had only seen in zoos before was great.
We flew into the safari camps in little tiny planes, generally piloted by young girls who looked to be 15-16 years old (I’m sure, in reality, they would be 17-18), which tested my dislike of flying. We took a couple of helicopters to see the safari areas from above. One was very small, and the pilot took the doors off so we would have a better view. I did ask how much more we would have to pay to have the doors on. But it was very cool.
We also had an elephant charge at our jeep, and the guide, instead of backing up and getting us out of there (like I very much wanted), started banging on the hood and yelling at it. And the elephant stopped. A few moments later, it started towards us again, and the guide did the same. And it stopped again.
The guide later explained that if you run off, the elephant will keep chasing you, knowing it has the power in the situation. Of course, knowing this beforehand would have been useful and would have saved me some panic.
Beyond that, the best part of the year is that our kids my wife and I managed to stay healthy and happy over the last year (as much as my wife has the worst cold/flu right now)
Best part of the season?
Playoffs. Seeing the team get several playoff wins for the first time in many years was almost surreal. If I had to pick one moment, either Vlad’s grand slam or him and Davis Schneider going back-to-back.
Your turn.
