The Los Angeles Rams’ Ty Simpson selection created quite a stir in the NFL world, but star Jared Verse approves of the pick. Verse went as far as to say that Simpson is “in the perfect situation,” learning from Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford.
The two-time Pro Bowler shared his thoughts on the rookie quarterback in an exclusive interview with D.J. Siddiqi of Casino.ca:
“He can run the ball, get through all that good stuff that all these quarterbacks in the league usually can do. The way he’s accurate,
the way he’s able to have confidence in the throws he makes, the things that he does — he’s confident in his abilities. That’s just a credit to the hard work that he puts in.”
Verse is correct in that Simpson is in the perfect spot because he will learn a lot from McVay. Now, McVay hasn’t exactly developed a young quarterback from scratch. He’s instead fixed some QBs as a reclamation project, most notably a second-year Jared Goff and Baker Mayfield in his brief stint with L.A.
This is somewhat uncharted territory for the Rams coach, yet don’t think he’ll be ill-equipped for this new challenge. Both McVay and Simpson possess incredible football IQs and recall, so something tells me that they’ll get along just fine.
Stafford, meanwhile, has never been in the position of being a “lame duck” quarterback. Meaning, this is the first time an organization he’s been a part of has drafted his successor and put a timer on the rest of his time with the team. Well, you play long enough, and eventually that’s going to happen, even if Stafford’s coming off the best season of his career.
Even then, the veteran will ultimately prove to be a positive role model and teacher for the first-year QB, as he’s never been one to cause drama in his NFL career.

Despite all the praise for Simpson, Verse has all the love for the reigning MVP, whom he called the “smartest player” he’s ever been around:
“He can do whatever he wants. That dude is the smartest human being I’ve ever been around — or one of the smartest human beings — when it comes to football and everything.”
Whether or not Simpson becomes the Rams’ future at the position remains to be seen. If Verse is right, there is no better place for him to find out than L.A., with the combination of McVay’s system and Stafford’s mentorship.
