The Mystics dropped a hard fought game to the Minnesota Lynx, 94-84.
This game was defined early by the Mystics’ inability to take care of the ball. Nine first half turnovers turned into 14 points off of turnovers for Minnesota. Sonia Citron and Shakira Austin were the biggest culprits with four turnovers each in the first half. Citron and Austin forced the action at times, which led to several live ball turnovers that got the Lynx going in transition.
As the game went on, the Mystics did a better
job taking care of the ball, only committing three second-half turnovers. It allowed them to stay within striking distance of the Lynx the entire way until two late game 3-pointers from Kayla McBride put Minnesota up 10 points.
Kiki Iriafen finished with a team-high 19 points, while Austin added 17 points. On the Lynx side, rookie sensation Olivia Miles tallied a game-high 24 points.
The Mystics fell to 21-15 and moved to seventh in the league standings. Washington will travel to Portland to face the Fire on Sunday night.
Takeaways:
- The Mystics won the rebounding battle 47 – 29. But Minnesota’s 21 points off 10 Mystics turnovers while shooting over 50% from the field negated Washington’s rebounding advantage.
