Frank Wilson is the current interim head coach at LSU and will lead the 7-5 Tigers in their bowl game. Upon the completion of that game, it has been announced that he will join Pete Golding’s staff for
the 2026 season.
This is a significant hire for the new head coach and Wilson as he is returning to the school that gave him his first college coaching role.
After a two year stint as a high school head coach, Wilson joined Ed Orgeron in Oxford as the running backs coach with a role in recruiting in 2005. During his time in Oxford he was linked to players such as BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Marshay Green, Kendrick Lewis and Mike Wallace.
His recruiting chops are what make him such a fantastic hire. He has spent two stints at LSU and has recruited players like:
- Leonard Fournette
- Tyrann Mathieu
- Harlem Berry (current LSU RB)
- Malachi Dupre (former Ole Miss target)
- Jarvis Landry
- Derrius Guice
- Caden Durham (current LSU RB)
- Ashton Stamps (in the transfer portal)
It has not been announced what his role on this staff would be. He has a long history as a running backs coach but Kevin Smith is still here in Oxford and the preference would be to retain his services (and those of All American Kewan Lacy). If Golding were to hire Wilson and keep Smith, LSU fans would be reeling and Oxford would be popping!
