It is PPV season for Ring of Honor. The Death Before Dishonor event goes live August 21 from 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. ROH revealed challengers for Bandido, Athena, and more champions.
Bandido will defend the ROH World Championship against Nick Wayne. The Prodigy is the youngest TV champion in ROH carrying the title for 387 days before his reign ended, and he looks to make history again as the youngest world champion in ROH. Bandido has held the ROH world title for 481 days and counting. Since
winning the gold from Chris Jericho, the list of victories include Mascara Dorada, Konosuke Takeshita, Hechicero, Survival of the Fittest, Blake Christian, Volador Jr., Katsuyori Shibata, and the list goes on.
Athena is the Forever Champ with a death grip on the ROH Women’s World Championship for over 1,300 days. It doesn’t look like her reign will end this PPV cycle. Athena defends against Hazuki from Stardom. This match stems from Hazuki & the Brawling Birds defeating Athena’s crew in trios action on Collision.
Deonna Purrazzo will defend the ROH Women’s Pure Championship against Steph De Lander. De Lander was feeling confident after beating Rachael Ellering in Pure rules, so she called out the Virtuosa.
Purrazzo spoke with Sam Leterna to accept the challenge. This will be Purrazzo’s return from injury, which coincidentally happened in a match against De Lander. I’m pretty sure that contest never aired on ROH TV, so the idea of revenge might not be canon in the ROH universe.
It’s funny that De Lander is in Pure rules considering her husband, Mance Warner, also has eyes on Pure gold. The problem is that Ole Mancer doesn’t know the Pure rules. De Lander appears to be more studious than her man at reading the rulebook.
Over in the men’s Pure division, Lee Moriarty will defend the ROH Pure Championship against Nigel McGuinness. Moriarty already has two wins over McGuinness in a Pure title defense in 2024 and a 30-minute Iron Man match in 2025. Nigel defeated Josh Woods to prove he still has the goods. McGuinness upped the stakes for round three. If he can’t beat Moriarty, then he will never wrestle in ROH again.
