Die Folgen: Bayern’s 6-0 win over RB Leipzig (Bavarian Football Works)
Bayern Munich was sensational in completely dismantling RB Leipzig 6-0 during the Bundesliga’s season opener.
Dominant in every aspect of the match, the Bavarians looked to be in midseason form, while RB Leipzig looked like it had no idea what the hell it just ran into.
Yes…it was that good.
Let’s get into it, here are some quick hitters on the match:
- As always let’s begin with Vincent Kompany’s starting XI, which went fully as expected:
- There was no deviation from what everyone anticipated and certainly no controversial picks.
- Bayern Munich was thoroughly dominant from the early going. The attack was presenting constant danger, the midfield controlled the tempo, and Manuel Neuer was on-point.
- Michael Olise (27’, 42’) and Luis Díaz (32’) put Bayern Munich ahead and the attack appeared to be clicking on all cylinders on opening day.
- Olise is just…damn good. What a weapon he has developed into.
- As expected, RB Leipzig is talented, but needs a lot of time to get on the same page. Ole Werner is going to have his hands full.
- Aside of the confusion surrounding the disallowed goal for RB Leipzig, the backline was very solid. This RB Leipzig team has a lot of attacking talent, including Antonio Nusa, but Bayern Munich was strong. Credit to Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah (though if the goal had been allowed, Tah’s game would have went from solid to so-so. Either way, it didn’t count, so credit to Tah).
- After the break, Kane would add a hat-trick in the rout. It seems as if Kane is getting very used to playing with Olise, Díaz, and Serge Gnabry. Kane’s entire hat trick came in a 13-minute span.
- Kim Min-jae came in and had a an assist, which was good to see. Otherwise, he was very solid, aside of nearly scoring an own goal.
- Lennart Karl is just straight energy…what a dynamic talent. Now, he just needs to improve his finishing.
- Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka take a lot of heat, but they were very good vs. RB Leipzig.
- Overall, this was about as good of start as Bayern Munich could have asked for. The Bavarians were extremely strong in all aspects of the match — including helping Neuer secure a clean sheet. The attack was on-point, the midfield was really good (dodges tomatoes), and the backline did exactly what it needed to do to contain a dangerous attacking group from RB Leipzig.

Maguire says teams have inquired about him (ESPN)
Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire said that other clubs have asked about his availability this summer.
“I think there were a couple of clubs who maybe enquired or spoke with them [United] and I think they got a quick response,” Maguire said. “I’m pretty sure the club have made it aware this summer that I can’t leave on any terms with other clubs enquiring about things and my position with my contract. We’re in a good place, positive as a club and I feel like the hierarchy has come in and Jason [Wilcox] and the manager, I feel like they’re taking it in the right direction. I think it’s been, since I started six years ago to where it is now, it’s in a completely different place in terms of the structure behind the management staff.”
Gladbach to get Reyna? (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)
Gladbach could be looking to bring in former Borussia Dortmund attacker (and noted offspring of the most famous helicopter parents in the United States) Gio Reyna:
🚨🐎 Excl | Borussia Mönchengladbach are now pushing to sign Gio #Reyna. They want to hijack the deal. Parma were back in the race recently, but there is still no breakthrough.
Borussia have made an offer to Dortmund. Understand Reyna can very much imagine a move to Gladbach. Now it’s up to the clubs. Negotiations are ongoing, but there is no agreement yet. @DiMarzio @SkySportDE
Plettenberg also had additional info:
🚨🐎 In order for the hijack of Gio #Reyna to Borussia Mönchengladbach to happen, it will depend on Borussia Dortmund’s willingness to compromise. #BVB
Gladbach can only afford a deal worth a maximum of €3–4m plus bonuses. Borussia pushing for him and Reyna keen to join BMG over Parma if the clubs find an agreement.

Højlund wants obligation to buy included in any loan deal (ESPN)
Rasmus Højlund finally agreed to leave Manchester United, but wants an obligation to buy clause built into any loan agreement:
Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund has made it clear to Napoli, RB Leipzig, AC Milan and any other interested clubs that he wants any loan deal to include an obligation to sign for them permanently rather than an option, reports Fabrizio Romano. The 22-year-old had been keen to stay at Old Trafford but now wants to feel the confidence of his new club if he is to leave. Elsewhere, Corriere dello Sport state that Højlund is the most likely option to replace Napoli’s injured striker Romelu Lukaku.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg added additional information, which seems to indicate that Bayern Munich is not closing the door on a loan for Højlund:
🚨🔴 Rasmus #Højlund has been and continues to be offered to FC Bayern on loan. The option is on the table, but Bayern have not bitten yet and are exploring other possibilities.
Napoli are concretely working on a loan deal for Højlund.
The player’s camp expect that a decision will take a few more days.
Inter wants Sancho (ESPN)
Inter Milan could be looking to bring in disgruntled Manchester United attacker Jadon Sancho:
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is now on Internazionale’s short list, reports TEAMtalk, which adds that Roma are also still in picture after initially being rejected by the 25-year-old. Sancho could look for a loan to keep his options open as a free agent in 2026, with Borussia Dortmund and Juventus the frontrunners. Turkish side Besiktas are also interested in the winger, who has no future at Old Trafford after signing for €85m from Dortmund in 2021.
