On the eve of the biggest game in Ole Miss football history, its biggest legend dropped some words of encouragement and wisdom after practice on Friday.
Archie Manning, the patriarch of football’s first family, stopped in for a chat with the Ole Miss football team. His No. 18 is retired and marks the speed limit on campus famously in Oxford.
This is one of those memories you
would hope sticks with these players for a long time. Archie has been a fixture in Oxford for a long time, but in the last several years, it seemed his family was not the biggest fans of Lane Kiffin and maybe kept their distance a bit.
I think its no small gesture for Archie to be at this final practice before Saturday’s game against Tulane. Boosters and fans love him, he’s showing support for the Pete Golding era, and he’s the elder statesman of Ole Miss visiting with the most successful team in program history.
Whether it was an electric speech or just some general back patting from a legend, fans will be eagerly awaiting this video and audio to drop on social media or in the next episode of The Season. Fingers crossed Archie drops some “kick some ass fellas” or “sweep the leg no mercy” type hype.
