The road to surpassing the 2024 White Sox win total continues on Friday evening as the Colorado Rockies kick off a three-game set with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for their final homestand of the season.
Bradley Blalock (1-5, 9.00 ERA) will get the ball for the Rockies once again as he attempts to salvage what’s been a brutal last few starts. The right-hander has allowed at least five runs in each of his last four outings and has allowed two-plus homers in three of four. Keeping the ball in the yard
will be paramount to his success, especially against an Angels lineup that’s tallied the third-most long balls in the American League.
Hopefully tonight will see Blalock take steps towards overcoming his struggles at Coors Field – this season, he’s got an ERA of 12.58 at home, compared to 5.61 on the road. Maybe the Angels’ unfamiliarity with Blalock, who’s making his first career start against Los Angeles, will help.
Speaking of first starts, Friday will mark Mitch Farris’s (1-1, 4.80 ERA) inaugural outing against the National League. The Wingate college southpaw is making his fourth career start at the Major League level and has just experienced his roughest appearance yet, in which he allowed five Seattle Mariners runs in four innings.
Farris employs a classic three-pitch mix – a four-seamer that tops out at around 91-92mph, a plus slider, and a yucky changeup. How will these weapons perform at elevation? We’ll find out tonight.
Keep an eye on Blaine Crim, who homered twice in last night’s loss. He’s hitting .364 in three games at Coors Field this season, and is having a bit more success hitting lefties than right-handed pitchers. A strong finish to the 2025 campaign could force him into the Rockies starting first baseman conversation next season.
