Chris Jericho has been gone from AEW
programming since April. The rumor mill has increasingly made it sound like his WWE return is expected to happen next year after his current contract expires, but nobody on the outside really knows what’s going on with Jericho’s future with AEW.President Tony Khan is really good at using a lot of words to say nothing, as he did a couple weeks ago when commenting on Jericho’s future with AEW. Was The Torg & Elliott Show able to get Tony to say anything of substance
about Jericho’s return in a new interview this week? Let’s find out.
Here is Khan’s answer when asked if Jericho will be back on AEW programming.
“Well, Chris Jericho’s been here since the very beginning, and I have so much great respect for Chris Jericho. I do really have to say, I would love to have Chris Jericho in AEW any time. And yeah, we absolutely want Chris Jericho back in AEW, and hopefully soon.
He’s been great with us, and he’s been with us since the very first event. The very first AEW world champion, and Chris is a huge part of the history of AEW. And still in great shape, still a great wrestler.”
The host knew Tony fed him a bunch of bullshit there, so he asked for something more than a generic response. Tony obliged by suggesting that Jericho’s return might be part of a big secret plan.
“Well, I think you’ve got to stay tuned to the show…that’s one of the reasons you watch the wrestling show is to see the returns, and we just talked at the beginning of the call about, you know, keeping secrets and stuff like that. So I think, stay tuned.”
Earlier in the interview, Khan talked about the importance of keeping information close to the vest so it doesn’t leak to the media, and also admitted that AEW sometimes leaks stories itself when it makes sense to do so.
Do you think AEW has plans in place for Chris Jericho’s secret return, or is Tony Khan really just hoping the guy comes back soon and doesn’t go to WWE later? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
