During SmackDown last night (Sept. 12), WWE booked a couple championship matches for the road to Wrestlepalooza next week. These won’t require the ESPN app, and will instead air on free(ish) TV.
First, we got confirmation that NXT’s return to Full Sail University will include at least one NXT Horsewoman in Charlotte Flair… and her current titleholding tag partner Alexa Bliss, another NXT alum whose resume has earned her a Horsewoman-like place in history. The Culling’s Izzi Dame & Tatum Paxley won
a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team championship on last Tuesday’s NXT, and they’ll get their shot against the champs on next week’s Homecoming special episode.
The current card for that Tues., Sept. 16 show looks like this:
- Rhea Ripley, Stephanie Vaquer & Tiffany Stratton vs. Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley, Jacy Jayne & Jazmyn Nyx)
- Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair (c) vs. The Culling (Izzi Dame & Tatum Paxley) for the WWE Women’s Tag Team championship
- Ethan Page (c) vs. Tyler Breeze for the North American title
- Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams vs. #D.I.Y. (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa)
- The Grayson Waller Effect, feat. Ricky Saints and NXT champion Oba Femi
After the Trick Melo Gang reunion at Homecoming, Carmelo Hayes has a title shot on SmackDown a few nights later. After a really good match with Rey Fenix last night, United States champ Sami Zayn is keeping up the open challenge gimmick he’s been doing that last few weeks. Hayes already accepted for next Friday, setting up more tension with his other tag partner, The Miz.
That’s the only match currently announced for the Sept. 19 SmackDown.
