Football:
Redshirt DB Cai Bates will enter the transfer portal; what should FSU prioritize in the transfer portal? The immediate questions, if they can address them, are at the edge rusher and quarterback positions.
If Fernando Mendoza can lead Indiana to a title he’d become one of 18 players to win a Heisman Trophy and a national championship in the same year; joining two fairly obvious Seminole names.
It’s another freshman All-American honor for Mandrell Desir; this time from 247Sports; right next to him on the list is Zahir Mathis, who was very close to being a Seminole but chose to go to Maryland instead.
Recruiting:
The quarterback market in the portal so far is intriguing but not particularly enticing, yet.
No. 3 DJ Lagway, Florida: Unlike the above two situations that had been trending toward a breakup for weeks, the divorce between Lagway and Florida came as somewhat of a surprise Monday. Lagway only decided in recent days he’d move on after his initial meetings with the new Florida staff went poorly, per sources. As for what’s next for the former No. 1 QB prospect in the 2024 class, schools like Baylor, Florida State and Duke (depending on what happens with Darian Mensah) have been brought up per sources along with those like Clemson, LSU and Miami. Of note, Lagway’s dad played at Baylor.
Could DJ Lagway pull a Brock Berlin?
With the 2026 class complete; FSU has turned its focus towards 2027. Four-star DB Emerson Lewis from Savannah, Georgia has been offered by Florida State:
All Sports:
Jordynn Hudson is a finalist for the Honda Sports Award; she would be the fourth Seminole to win it as a member of the Soccer team and fifth overall:
It’s a quiet week in Tallahassee until Thursday evening:
Both Men’s and Women’s Hoops are trying to end four-game losing streaks.
Alumni:
You could argue no one is playing the safety position better than Derwin James right now:
Former FSU Quarterback Drew Weatherford joined the ‘Momentous Sports’ Podcast to discuss private equity in college athletics following the rumor of his firm linking up with Redbird Capital to finance the Big 12 Conference. He still feels however that we are many, many years away from schools selling equity themselves.
Asante Samuel Jr. is back on the field and annoying quarterbacks:
