Bayern Munich could have at least one outgoing transfer in the January window.
Speaking to reporters after Bayern’s 5-0 friendly victory over Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday, executive board member for sport
Max Eberl confirmed that the status of fullback Sacha Boey is potentially up in the air.
“With Hiroki [Itō] and Phonzy [Davies] back, we have a lot of full-backs with very high quality. So things could be difficult for one or another. And then it would probably make sense to think about a change,” Eberl stated after the match, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “It’s still January 6th, there’s still time before the end of the transfer window.”
Boey, 25, had his share of chances early on this season as Vincent Kompany dealt with a dicey injury situation in his defense. He, Konrad Laimer, and Josip Stanišić all took turns occasionally manning the left-back positions that Itō and Alphonso Davies normally occupy. However, Boey’s chances had all but dried up by the start of the Winterpause, and reportedly his conduct had something to do with it too.
Now Davies is well on his way to full match fitness, Itō is already sparkling — if his performance in Tuesday’s friendly is anything to go by — and Boey is the odd man out. The extra depth he offers at right-back does not hurt, but this would not be a bad time for Bayern to try and get something for him.
