His team may have beaten Indiana by 20, but Illinois men’s basketball head coach Brad Underwood still had praise for the Hoosiers during his postgame press conference on Sunday afternoon in Champaign.
“In a night we didn’t shoot the ball very well, to have a twenty point win against a team that’s won five of six, against a team that’s an NCAA Tournament team, that speaks volumes to our defense,” Underwood said.
Underwood said more, calling Indiana’s Lamar Wilkerson a pro when talking about Illinois’
defense in the game. Wilkerson led the Hoosiers with 21 points against the Fighting Illini, knocking down two of his seven attempts from 3-point range.
Indiana went into the matchup with two consecutive wins following a road loss to USC, strengthening its NCAA Tournament resume. There’s more opportunities down the line, including one on Friday in a rivalry bout at Purdue.
