Atletico Madrid’s Mateu Alemany says he’s expecting Julian Alvarez to return to team training and be available for his team’s next match despite ongoing speculation about his future.
Alvarez has missed training this week with Diego Simeone’s side, due to feeling unwell, and was left out of the squad for Saturday’s La Liga clash with Sevilla.
Alemany was asked about Alvarez ahead of kick-off and feels the saga is all but over after Atletico issued a statement to confirm they would not sell the forward
to Barcelona.
“We have been very clear and forceful on this issue. The Board has made it clear in a public statement, and the CEO has stated it clearly and forcefully. I refer you to that; why say more?” he told Movistar.
“The plan is very clear. He had a few days where he wasn’t feeling well. He trained yesterday and we hope he’ll be back in the team quickly and available for the next LaLiga match. I spoke with him at training yesterday and everything seemed normal.”
Alvarez now looks as though he will stay at Atletico. Arsenal are also interested in the Argentina international but he has reportedly told Mikel Arteta he does not want to move to north London.
