Two years ago, the Allianz Arena was home to the Champions League final. Bayern Munich was unfortunately eliminated in the quarterfinals of the competition by Inter Milan, who got squashed by Paris Saint-Germain at the Bavarians’ home stadium in the UCL final. A year later, Bayern reached the semifinals before getting eliminated by eventual champions PSG, who this time lifted the trophy in the Puskás Aréna.
This year, Bayern aim to go to the next step and reach the final (obviously, they want to win
that game, too). The 2026/27 UCL final will be held in the Estadio Metropolitano, Atlético Madrid’s home stadium. Interestingly enough, the recent Champions League league phase draw determined Bayern will travel to that stadium on a Champions League night, facing the Diego Simeone’s men in the first round of the competition proper.
Bayern captain Manuel Neuer immediately noted this and set a second trip to the stadium this season as the goal: “The opponents are very well-balanced and interesting teams with a lot of tradition. In general, we want to finish in the top eight again; that is our main objective,” Neuer began (as captured by @iMiaSaMia). “The matchup with Arsenal has already become something of a classic in recent years. We will face Atlético at the stadium where the final will be played, and we all hope that we will get to play there twice this season. Bayern against Manchester United is, of course, an absolute classic with a lot of history in the Champions League. Playing there away from home is something special.
“We also won’t underestimate our matches against Bodø/Glimt, who were a real surprise last season, as well as Lille, Slavia Prague, Real Betis and Viking. We’re looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
Bayern’s goal is always to improve on the prior season and win all the trophies. Having gone one round further and bowing out in the semis in last season’s Champions League, Bayern will aim to reach the showpiece match and finally bring the trophy back to Munich again after seven years.
