What is the story about?

Few predicted a title change in the Women’s World title match at WrestleDream tonight (Oct. 17), but then few predicted this match between two of the past three wrestlers to hold the top prize in AEW’s women’s division would open the PPV from Orlando, Florida.

One of those things happened, as Mercedes Moné and Thekla delivered an exciting opener (well, after Motor City Machine Guns vs. FTR wrapped up after spilling over from the Tailgate Blitz pre-show) that mostly saw the challenger in control of the champion.

Moné had the Toxic Spider scouted…

… but the Toxic Spider took advantage of every opportunity, and got a big one when Mercedes’ knee got nothing but ringpost on a meteora attempt. The champ was able to hangle everything Thekla threw at her though…

Rope breaks saved The CEO on multiple occasions, and when referee Stefon Smith’s was dealing a post-two count freak-out from Thekla, created an opening for Mercedes to use her protective face mask as a weapon. That turned the tide, and a Moné Maker got three.

Those no title change predictions were right. What did you make of the match?
