Jorge Valdano has called for patience and structural clarity at Real Madrid, stressing the need for stability in the dugout rather than continued short-term decisions.
Speaking about the current situation on El Laguero, Valdano pointed to a broader issue that goes beyond results.
“It is the moment at Madrid for stability, to choose a project, to back it and accept the consequences.”
He emphasized that without institutional support, even the best coaches struggle to impose authority.
“If the players perceive
a weak coach, they will eat him alive… and that comes down to backing, to the support of the club.”
Valdano also highlighted the importance of time, using Manchester City as a recent example.
“All coaches need time; what City are doing this year seems very meritorious to me, I didn’t see them fighting for the Premier.”
He contrasted that with clubs where managers operate with full trust.
“Guardiola, Luis Enrique and Simeone are coaches who operate in their clubs with complete freedom and nobody questions them there.”
“A coach’s first need is the backing of the club, because players can clearly see whether a coach is strong or weak.”
