The first AP Top 25 of the year is out and Duke is ranked #9 out of the chute. The other ranked ACC teams are Louisville at #15 and UNC slipping in at #25.
Louisville is arguably underrated but we’ll see how that works out. UNC may be overrated but again, we’ll see. Hubert Davis has some players but the problem at UNC isn’t the players, it’s Davis’s ability to get through to them. If he does, the Tar Heels could be pretty good.
St. John’s might be a stretch at #1. Houston is #2 and while we think BYU
should be good, #3 is probably too high.
Purdue is#4, UConn #5, Florida #6, Texas Tech #7, Michigan #8 and UCLA is slotted at #10 right behind Duke.
It’s worth mentioning this: Duke will play #6 Florida, #8 Michigan, #10 Texas Tech, #15 Louisville, #16 Michigan State, #18 Kansas, #20 Arkansas, #22 Tennessee (in an exhibition), #23 Texas, and #25 UNC at least twice.
It’s going to be a very tough schedule.
