According to a report from L’Equipe (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich stars Harry Kane and Michael Olise each had an opportunity to join Paris Saint-Germain before ultimately deciding on a move to Bayern Munich:
Both Harry Kane and Michael Olise rejected a move to PSG before they signed for FC Bayern. Internally at PSG, it is said that “Many people/players thought PSG would go back to being a small club.” after the departure of Mbappé, Messi and Neymar.
In the case of Kane, he was a priority
target for PSG. The French club held talks with his brother and father. However, “At his age, Kane wanted to join a club capable of winning the Champions League immediately. He didn’t really believe in the PSG project”, says the PSG source – hence he picked Bayern.
As for Olise, he didn’t believe in PSG’s project either. “It was up to him to make his decision. He weighed things up and, like others, he chose another project.” Just like Kane, Olise picked Bayern as well.
BFW Commentary
How different would Bayern Munich be if Kane and/or Olise chose to go to Paris? It is a wild scenario to think about. While both players are excellent and would be impossible to replace, Bayern Munich’s track record without a striker is pretty glaring.
In retrospect, Kane and Olise both were proven wrong in their assessment of PSG’s “project”, but those decisions paves the way for an incredible 2025/26 campaign at Bayern Munich. Will Kane and Olise ultimately be proven correct and win a Champions League title next season?
We cannot wait to find out.
