The Buffalo Bills have locked up O’Cyrus Torrence with a massive four-year extension just a few months after extending Connor McGovern. In 2025, it was James Cook and Christian Benford and Josh Allen and Greg Rousseau and Terrel Bernard and Khalil Shakir.
So that begs the question: Who is next for a Buffalo Bills contract extension?
Here’s my list in order of likelihood. I don’t anticipate any of these happening before the season starts, but a midseason extension could be possible for one or two of these guys.
I only went with contracts above a couple million bucks, so sorry to the likes of Ty Johnson.
DT Ed Oliver
Free agent in 2028
Ed Oliver is a game-changer on a team without many of them. He has one more year left on his deal in 2027 but his cap hit jumps from $13.7 to $28.3 million next year because of the pushed out cap hits catching up to the Bills. Oliver will only be 29 this December. I think this is a no-brainer and could be done before the season starts. Buffalo doesn’t usually extend guys with two years left on their deal, so expect it to be a modest in time frame with one or two years.
OL Alec Anderson
Free agent in 2027
I think they could extend him during the season if he wins the left guard job. Here’s the scenario. David Edwards was the sixth offensive lineman, then the starter at left guard when he earned a two-year, $6 million contract. If Anderson wins the job and signs that type of short extension, it’s an absolute win.
S C.J. Gardner-Johnson
Free agent in 2027
Currently the starter at safety, if he makes an early season impact, you can see a scenario where the Bills offer him a two-year extension. CJGJ has bounced around the last few years and finding an organization that “gets him” has to be something he would embrace.
TE Dalton Kincaid
Free agent in 2028
Kincaid needs to prove he’s healthy, but if he does this is a priority for next offseason. His 2027 cap hit is $8.1 million so they can lower than with a midsize extension. A Cole Kmet/Jake Ferguson four-year, $50 million contract would place him seventh in the NFL, so it’s probably going to be a touch higher than that.
LB Dorian Williams
Free agent in 2027
The fact that Kincaid is higher than Williams despite the linebacker being a free agent after 2026 should tell you something. The Bills drafted Kaleb Elarms-Orr this offseason and he has looked stellar early while Williams was out with an offseason injury. Williams would have been much higher on this list a couple months ago.
S Cole Bishop
Free agent in 2028
If Bishop adjusts to the Jim Leonhard defense as well as I think he is going to, Buffalo may lock him up as early as February 2027. He is already setting himself up as one of the leaders on the defense.
ED Michael Hoecht
Free agent in 2028
I think he needs to play a full season healthy, but if he’s a man on fire and approaches double-digit sacks, he could be a 2027 offseason priority.
OL Lloyd Cushenberry
Free agent in 2027
If he wins the left guard job, the same scenario could play out with him that I described with Alec Anderson. They could even put the two of them in a room with one contract and do a reverse auction. Which one is willing to go lower as our left guard. Since he’s clearly behind Anderson in camp, I’ll add him last on the list.
Bills players who just missed the list
WR Josh Palmer
If Palmer plays a big role this year and Keon Coleman busts, there is a scenario where the Bills pop two more years on the Palmer deal.
K Tyler Bass
He is a free agent after 2027 and already 8th in average salary. If he has a good season, they will tack on a couple years and some cash.
WR Keon Coleman
If I am the Bills, I don’t pay Coleman even after one really good season, so he seems more like an August 2027 extension to me at the earliest.
LB Joe Andreesen
Andreesen is going to be a restricted free agent next year. The right of first refusal is $3.8 million, so they won’t tag him with that. I can see him signing a three-year deal or something as a special teams stalwart.
RB Ty Johnson
I don’t think he’s going to sign a big enough contract to warrant being on the list, but he’s a free agent after the season.
