The Dallas Mavericks have hired Masai Ujiri as team president and alternate governor, concluding a six-month search process, the organization announced on Monday.
Ujiri spent 13 seasons leading the Toronto Raptors from 2013 to 2025 and was at the helm during the franchise’s 2018-19 NBA Championship. He made bold moves en route to Toronto’s only NBA title, including trading franchise favorite DeMar DeRozan for star Kawhi Leonard. The Raptors and Ujiri parted ways in June 2025 after Toronto missed the playoffs
for the third straight season.
Prior to Toronto, Ujiri led the Denver Nuggets’ front office from 2010 to 2013. He won the NBA’s Executive of the Year award in 2012-13 after Denver finished the regular season with a 57-25 record. Overall, Ujiri’s teams in Denver and Toronto had a 690-504 record and made the playoffs in 12 of his 15 seasons.
The Mavericks’ lead basketball executive role has been open since general manager Nico Harrison was fired on Nov. 11. Dallas finished the regular season with a 26-56 record and enter the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery with the eighth-best odds.
