With the World Series over, it’s officially the offseason for everybody. Later today marks the start of the period where any team can sign any player. What’s going to be different about this offseason is the coming lockout. Will that make it a rush for the Orioles to get stuff done in November? If so, this could really look unlike any other Mike Elias offseason we’ve seen so far.
In this episode, I am trying to figure out where the Orioles need to add on the pitching staff and what they might actually
be able to do about it. There sure seems to be a huge need in the starting rotation with Trevor Rogers having become a free agent. Maybe Rogers is even the best guy to plug that gap, except, is Elias actually going to spend on a free agent starting pitcher? It’s never happened before, but maybe he will decide this is the time to finally do it. His other plans haven’t been working.
Also in this episode, a reader emailed to ask how the midseason firing of Brandon Hyde looks after so much time has passed and after his full-time replacement has turned out to be Craig Albernaz. This prompted a rant about Albernaz, who has made few friends among Orioles fans with his behavior this year and I’m certainly not one of those few friends.
