Derrick Lewis may have another chance to speak with President Donald Trump after this weekend’s UFC 324 card on Paramount+, but “Black Beast” better pick up the phone when he calls.
Lewis, who enters this weekend a betting underdog for his heavyweight clash with rising contender Waldo Cortes-Acosta, is coming off back-to-back knockout victories inside of the Octagon. The most recent one came against young prospect Tallison Teixeira last July in Nashville, Tenn., as “Black Beast” needed just 35 seconds
to find the finish (watch HERE).
While Lewis’ knockout was impressive in its own right it was his post-fight, in-cage phone call with Trump that caught the most attention. Trump connected with UFC CEO Dana White on the phone, which was then passed along to Lewis inside the Octagon. The veteran fighter wasn’t able to make out much of what Trump said and only talked for a few seconds, but it was still a really cool moment for those watching.
Unfortunately, Lewis missed another opportunity to talk to Trump after the event. President Trump attempted to call Lewis again for a longer conversation, but “Black Beast” didn’t recognize his phone number and Trump got screened. Trump then went back to UFC and told them to let Lewis know he’ll be calling back, but Trump never picked up the phone again.
It was a missed chance by Lewis, but one he could get back again with his third-straight win this weekend at UFC 324 in “Sin City.” Check out Lewis’ story below:
“He tried to call me the next day, but I didn’t know that was his number so I didn’t answer it,” said Lewis during a recent interview with Spinning Backfist. “He called UFC and told them, ‘Tell Derrick to answer the phone because it’s me that’s calling.’ So I waited and he never called me.”
