Rutgers continues to add in the 2027 recruiting class.
On Wednesday, On3 reported that New York athlete Trent Buttles has committed to the Scarlet Knights. He received an offer from Greg Schiano during a visit to campus last weekend and did not waste time making a decision.
Buttles will head back to Rutgers for an official visit in the future. He was gaining steam in recruitment from teams like Temple, James Madison, Navy, UConn, Buffalo, and others.
Buttles has played on both sides of the ball for
St. Francis in West Henrietta, NY. He found success both at quarterback and free safety at the high school level. Since his recruitment began, many programs felt that he fit best in the defensive backfield and that is the assumption entering Rutgers as well.
At quarterback, the 6-foot Buttles threw for 1,929 yards an 20 touchdowns with nine interceptions last season. He adde 657 yards and nine scores on the ground. Defensively, he logged 87 tackles, three interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Buttles is now the third commit in the 2027 class for Rutgers, joining tight end Sydney Padilla and offensive lineman James Cocozzo.
