The Cleveland Cavaliers have been dealing with their fair share of injuries to start the season. Jaylon Tyson is the newest member of the team to join the injury report. He did so after suffering a concussion in last Monday’s overtime loss to the Miami Heat.
As of now, the Cavs don’t have a timetable for when he could return.
“There is a protocol,” Atkinson said when asked about Tyson’s progression. “There are steps that he’s got to go through. It’s just part of the NBA protocol. What I can confirm
is today (Saturday) he’ll start light biking, monitored biking, to get a sweat and all that.”

Concussions are tricky. There isn’t necessarily a normal timeline for return like there might be for other injuries. That makes predicting when he could be back on the court difficult.
“We are in the beginning stages of what that return to play looks like, but we’re only in stage one, and there are other benchmarks we got to pass,” Atkinson said before Saturday’s win against the Memphis Grizzlies. “I wish we could say, ‘Man, it’s a week, he’s going to be ready in two weeks.’ I just don’t want to go there yet, because there’s an evaluation process that goes with it. I’ll tell you this, it’s not like in two days he’s ready. I’ll tell you that’s not how this works. There’s steps he’s got to take.”
Tyson has been one of the bright spots for the Cavs this season. His energy has been much needed for a team that has been in a bit of a funk at the start of the season. Tyson is averaging 11.1 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game on .489/.462/.769 shooting splits in 11 games.
