New York Post | Dan Martin: With the 2026 season now officially in the books, free agency is officially set to open later today. While this year’s free agent class isn’t necessarily full of superstars, there are some potentially helpful names. Considering the way the Yankees have gone out in the postseason the last two years, they could certainly use some of that help.
SNY | Ben Pawlak: One person on that list will be third baseman Teruaki Sato of Japan. Reports are that Sato has now officially been
posted by the Hanshin Tigers of NPB, adding him to this year’s free agent class. Sato was MVP of Japan’s Central League in 2025 and followed that up with a Triple Crown-winning season in 2026, hitting .306 with 39 home runs and 106 RBI.
MiLB.com | Tim Crowley: Madison had the report last night for Pinstripe Alley on Cody Bellinger winning a Gold Glove Award for his excellent work in left field, but he wasn’t the only Yankee to earn an honor! Although Austin Wells and José Caballero came up short, Somerset’s Cade Smith—not to be confused with the Guardians’ closer—won a Minor League Gold Glove, which is no small feat since the Double-A righty was competing against literally every other minor-league pitcher.
The Athletic | Johnny Flores Jr.: While first base is often a position regarded as somewhere you can stick just about any defender, the numbers don’t necessarily bear that out. This article digs into some of the ways that good first baseman are standing out, giving Paul Goldschmidt some love along the way.
New York Post | Thomas Gamba-Ellis: Congratulations go out to Yankees’ outfielder Spencer Jones, who got engaged to girlfriend Ava O’Connor atop the Empire State Building over the weekend. An amusing way to pass the time is to scroll through the Instagram comments of his announcement for teammates and Yankees media figures offering their own salutations! (Shout-out to Max Schuemann for “That’s my chill bird.”)
