Kentucky Football was looking to add another commitment to its growing 2027 recruiting class on Monday, as 3-star offensive tackle Rance Brown was set to make his college commitment.
However, Brown ultimately pledged to the Auburn Tigers, leaving the Wildcats to search elsewhere for a tackle.
Brown is a 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive tackle from Brentwood, Tennessee. According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Brown is rated as the No. 1,112 overall player nationally, the No. 86 offensive tackle in the class,
and the No. 41 overall player in the state of Tennessee.
Kentucky originally offered Brown in late March and quickly became a major player in his recruitment before losing out to Auburn for his commitment. Brown is scheduled to visit Auburn on Friday, while he still has an official visit set with Kentucky on June 12 if he chooses to continue taking visits.
Brown held more than 20 scholarship offers throughout his recruiting process and is viewed as a developmental Power Four offensive lineman with significant upside. Andrew Ivins, Director of Scouting for 247 Sports, describes him as a tall, aggressive lineman who creates consistent push at the line of scrimmage while showing positional versatility that could allow him to play both tackle and guard in a zone-heavy offensive scheme.
Before transferring to Brentwood Academy ahead of his senior season, Brown primarily played left tackle during his junior year at Southside High School in Alabama.
Scouts have praised Brown’s size, strong upper body, and physical blocking style. His 10.5-inch hands and ability to generate force make him an intriguing long-term prospect, while his athleticism and pass protection flashes continue to stand out on film.
While Brown may need developmental time early in his college career, Auburn sees major upside in his frame, athleticism, and versatility along the offensive line. The commitment gives Auburn another key trench piece as Alex Golesh and the Tigers continue building for the future in the SEC.
As for Kentucky, they have three offensive line pledges so far, but they’re projected to be guards at the college level, leaving the Wildcats in search of a true offensive tackle prospect.
